Sometimes we take on each new responsibility as it comes - at work, at home - and we don't consider whether we can put something else down to make room for it. We unwittingly accumulate a continuously growing load. Incredible strength is built holding such a weight, but that is not how it feels. It's crushing and we feel weak. The reality is, the difficulty asking for help, saying no or delegating has trapped us here, not our capacity, capability or determination. The real shift comes when we test our fears, not by taking on more but taking on less. When we set boundaries and discover the catastrophe we imagined doesn't happen, things change. We lessen our load at times, not because we're weak but so we can take a moment to breathe and enjoy the rewards of our efforts. We shift from white-knuckling our way through life, to feeling a little lighter and a little freer.
